Our Upholstery Services:
Tried and True Upholstery Services
Some upholsterers embrace a cookie-cutter approach that enables them to maximize the number of clients they can serve. Unfortunately, that kind of approach typically sacrifices quality for the sake of quantity. At Jerome Shorter, we take the time necessary to understand the particular needs of each client and then fashion our upholstery services to satisfy those needs. It’s why discerning homeowners will not trust anyone else with their prized pieces of furniture and why so much of our business comes from referrals.
Expert Upholstery Services for Modern and Vintage Furniture
We offer peerless bespoke upholstery services that enhance the aesthetic and practical aspects of new and old furniture. We understand that upholstery is more than just something to cover a sofa with. When done right upholstery informs and complements the lines and volumes of the piece while also ensuring the chair offers an appropriate level of comfort.
Adding value while respecting the intent of the piece is a difficult juggling act and not a lot of upholsterers are capable of pulling it off. The artisans in our upholstery shop treat each and every piece of furniture they encounter with the respect it deserves and bring every day of their many years of experience to bear on the task at hand.
Whether your goal is to breathe new life into cherished heirlooms or you suspect your new furniture is missing the upholstery it needs to truly activate it, the team at Jerome Shorter are here for you.
The Process
While our upholstery services are tailored to each client’s specific needs the journey each client takes follows the same path.
The initial enquiry
The journey starts when you fill out the contact form on our website and tell us about the upholstery project you have in mind. The more specific you can be the better, and if you can email some photos of the piece in question, even better. Whether you would like us to create bespoke upholstery for a beloved piece of modern furniture or you need traditional upholstery for a treasured antique nothing is beyond the skills of our craftsmen.
The site visit
We recommend a site visit to most clients because it provides us with context. When we are able to see the size and shape of the space where the furniture resides, the type of lighting involved (both natural and artificial), other furniture occupying the space as well as the type, colours and textures of any floor coverings we are able to create upholstery solutions that are greater than the sum of the materials used.
Concepting your piece
Based on the initial consultation, along with the information we were able to glean from the site visit, our designer develops a series of concept drawings detailing our proposed upholstery solution. But that’s not all. Accompanying the concept drawings will be swaths of fabric so you can both see the proposed piece in context while gaining an appreciation for the tactile qualities of the finished piece.
Creating the upholstery
Once any adjustments to the proposed design have been made and accepted by you and we have received the necessary fabric for the project, the upholstery will be completed in 4 – 6 weeks. Once complete you will have the option of having the piece delivered to your home or business, or stopping by our Tonbridge upholstery shop and picking up the piece yourself.
The Jerome Shorter Difference
We strive for perfection with each upholstery project. Everything we do is designed to get the most out of the pieces of furniture our clients entrust to our care. We take great pride in the work we do, in the thoroughness of our process and in the quality of the results we are able to achieve.
But we are not here to tell you what you want. Our job is to help you achieve the best possible results for your furniture. We advise, guide and recommend but ultimately final decisions lie with the customer. If by chance a customer wants to leave it entirely up to us to determine the best way forward, we can certainly do that too.
