Couch Upholstery

With the possible exception of the bed the couch is likely the most used piece of furniture in the house. People nap, eat, socialise, read books, chat on their phones and binge watch their favourite streaming series’ while sitting and lying on the couch. Once the couch upholstery begins to show signs of age you have a decision to make: to reupholster or simply buy a new couch. Below, we’ll make the case for redoing the couch upholstery.

How to Tell if Your Couch is a Good Candidate for Reupholstery

Not every couch whose upholstery succumbs to wear and tear is a good candidate to be reupholstered, but many are. Here are a few things to consider when trying to determine if you should replace the couch or opt for new couch upholstery:

  • Age: If the couch is a genuine antique disposing of it, giving it away or simply continuing to allow it to degrade would be a mistake, if only for financial reasons. Even a vintage piece (more than 20 years old) has value that must be considered before deciding what to do with it.
  • Build quality: Today’s mass-produced furniture can’t hold a candle to old furniture when it comes to build quality. If your couch has a genuine hardwood frame and old-fashioned joints that are still intact you should consider saving it and investing in new couch upholstery.
  • Sentimental value: Maybe it’s the first piece of furniture you bought after being married. Or maybe it’s just been the centre of your family’s social life for as long as anyone can remember. If that’s the case we’d argue you should save it.

Jerome’s service is excellent. My company needed 3 items reupholstered and Jerome provided a quote with plenty of relevant fabric choices.
He collected each item individually and quickly returned each, keeping us up to date on the process.
Jerome’s customer service and punctual turn around of the items was great.
Well recommended.

John, Tunbridge Wells

We had four porter-style antique armchairs, a sofa and a chaise-longue extensively repaired and re-upholstered by Jerome. His work was meticulously professional, completed to a very high standard and delivered on time and to budget. His artistic judgement is thoughtful, helpful but never intrusive. This was a complicated and expensive job which he excelled in. We are already repeat customers.

Mr Paine, Horsmonden

Jerome’s work is amazing and he is a pleasure to do business with. I and my chair thank him!
