Vintage and Contemporary Re-upholstery in Brighton
People often discard old furniture, but in many cases, they would be better off keeping the piece and having it reupholstered. Why? Because it’s rare to find contemporary furniture that is made with the same care and high-quality materials as furniture from 50 or 100 years ago.
At Jerome Shorter, we provide world-class re-upholstery in Brighton. If you have an old button-back armchair, Victorian Easy Chairs or an Edwardian sofa we would strongly suggest that you call us before you dispose of it. Chances are we can restore it to its former glory and in the process provide you with a valuable heirloom.
What You Can Expect
When you entrust the restoration of your venerable furnishings to Jerome Shorter Furniture you can be certain your furniture is in good hands. Before we do anything we appraise and discuss the piece or pieces with you, determine your wishes and expectations and provide expert advice on the various aesthetic and practical aspects of the re-upholstering.
Your fabric choices are virtually unlimited as we have deep connections throughout the upholstery and fabric industries and are able to source whatever type of fabric the furniture requires or you desire. If what you desire is a total, faithful restoration of the original look and feel we can certainly do that as well.
Once the material issues have been settled we bring the piece to our workshop where our Master Craftsmen begin by stripping away the existing fabric to reveal the state of the cushions, springs and framing. Should any of these vital components show signs of significant degradation we replace them with new, high-quality materials that are fully in keeping with the quality standards of the original piece.
One thing that becomes blazingly apparent if you spend time re-upholstering old furniture in Brighton is that most of today’s furniture simply does not measure up. With real materials increasingly rare and expensive the emphasis of furniture manufacturers has shifted from quality to volume.
While that means new furniture today is more affordable than it was 50 years ago, it also means new furniture is likely to break down quicker and fail to retain any resale value. The smart thing to do is to hold onto that high-quality older furniture and let the artisans at Jerome Shorter Furniture restore it to its former glory.
